A Desk is Crucial to Me for Blogging

I started taking some classes again. It isn’t a heavy workload I don’t think, but it’s a change in my schedule. It’s been an adjustment period. On top of it, I’m in the process of unpacking and getting rid of things, so my place is quite the disaster.

I have no desk at the moment. During July, I was able to use the kitchen table, but with the current schedules of every one else in the house, I cannot use it anymore. Hence the lack of posting. Right now I’m actually typing this up on my phone, which is annoying but doable. I’m not one of those people who can type long entries on my phone or use my laptop on my couch because it aggravates my carpal tunnel syndrome.

On top of it all, my father was hospitalized recently due to health problems. Thankfully he is home again. ๐Ÿ™‚

In the end, yes I’m around. Yes, I’m behind on reading, but I plan on catching up soon.

Your turn

Anyone have desk recommendations for me? I haven’t found anything that is like “Yes! I must have that!”

Where do you blog from? What does your work area look like?ย

  1. Kristina, I’ve found that writing posts in Microsoft Word causes me formatting headaches, so I draft my posts now in my old IPad’s Notes app, and then email that to myself. For some reason, I write best at my dining room table, early in the morning or late at night, when I have it to myself.

I edit best at my desk, though, so I open the draft on my laptop, paste it into a WP draft, and spend several days whipping it into shape.

Good luck with your new schedule, settling in, and family medical issues! I hope, by this time next month, you’re feeling like all is well!

    1. Hi Pam. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.

That sounds like quite a work flow.

Here’s a tip for formatting with Word. If you copy it and paste it into the HTML box instead of the visual editor, you shouldn’t have any formatting problems. If you do, it’ll just be putting paragraphs back in.

I tend to use the WordPress editor for my drafts. For stories and fiction works, I sometimes work on them in Google Drive.

I hope I feel better about the new routine come October too. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks!

          1. No. It’s a feature within the quick post and the old editor. Go to create a post. You’ll see the title at the top. Beneath that, you’ll see the features like Bold, Italics, etc. Look over to the right. At the very top of the editor you will see VISUAL and TEXT or HTML. Click on that second option.

  2. I love my desk! It’s big and in an L shape so I have plenty of room for my computer, books, and folders. And I still have lots of room to spread out my textbooks when I need to study. I practically live at my desk. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. If you put the longest part against the wall and just let the short part hang out I think it will look fine. I’ve seen it done before. It gives you so much more room.
I don’t know what kind it is. I just call it an L desk. lol. It’s pretty simple design with two drawers on one end (which is a great place to store stuff without making your desk look cluttered).

  3. Hi Kristina. Doesn’t it seem life happens all at the same time? I’m happy you’re settling in and so very happy your Dad is okay. Don’t feel bad about not being around. You’ve touched a lot of bloggers so you are always in our thoughts. Now, I must apologize to you. I am only now getting around to creating a post for the award you nominated me for. Soon, real soon….lol. It seems my best work is done in front of the TV with my hubby sitting next to me. I happened to be visiting with my brother and a woman walked by carrying a plastic table. Perfect, I thought. I asked her if I could buy it. “This old thing. You can have it.” It turns out it’s an adjustable TABLE MATEยฎ FOLDING TABLE. It’s not much to look at but it’s perfect. Here’s the link. I hope this helps.

    1. Thanks for visiting and commenting, Sharon. ๐Ÿ™‚ (You filled out Sharon in my questionnaire. Did you prefer that or S.A.?)

Life really does seem to happen all at once. It’s nice having him at home again. It’s been so quiet.

That table looks interesting. We have TV trays that may do the same thing? They are too tall for me though. Are they the same height as a standard TV Tray?

  4. Hi Kristina,
Glad to have you back in the blogosphere! For me, I can never post directly from my phone, in all of my posts I have only done one post entirely by phone!
I always write my post on a word doc and then post into the drafts for final editing before posting. I have noticed that I write best when I’m sitting at the kitchen counter and in my bedroom on my bed. I can never sit any other place to blog. Quite weird when I think about it now!
P.S: Hope your dad is better now.
    Best, Rashmi

    1. Hi Rashmi,

Thanks for stopping by! I guess I’m the weird one in that I write my posts in the WordPress draft itself, haha. Oh well. I’m starting to think I should just write out my posts by hand so I can transcribe them once I do get a desk. Then, I’d actually be able to be ahead with scheduling! LOL.

Everyone has their place to write. IT’s good that you’ve found yours!

      Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I have a desktop computer, and a Nook tablet, but the tablet is only 7″. I prefer to write on the desktop with a real keyboard. My desk was from Wal-Mart – Sauder Harbor View with Hutch – love it! Spoiler alert: You need at least 2 people to assemble!

  6. Hello Kristina, how are you? I’m glad that your dad is okay now. We haven’t had the time to get to know each other much, so I hope we will once you have settled down with the changes. I usually type in the Microsoft Word, I am trying to look up on how to do your suggestion to Pam but I have a hard time ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t help much on the desk though since I only have a small desk just right for my computer. I hope you will find the best desk for you ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I think I’m taking my parents’ old office desk for now and getting a drafting desk too. It’s a tab on the right side above where the content goes.

I hope we get to know each other more too. I love your icon.

          1. I haven’t got around to check it. Maybe later or tomorrow, I even was not able to write something for our Writing 101 5th day assignment. lol ๐Ÿ™‚ I am busy today with work, I’ll advise and ask if it didn’t ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. “Where do you blog from? What does your work area look like? ”

My work area is my bed lol ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜›

I use a small table for my laptop(notebook). One of my friends recommended this to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

    How have you been?

    How is your dad now?

    Best Wishes,

    Anand ๐Ÿ™‚
